Fangirl Day 1

So I'm a little behind but that's okay!

Adam Young: Also known as Owl City or Sky Sailing or my favorite band ever! Adam is an inspiration. His music is incredible. His lyrics, phenomenal. He also is very open about his faith. (Plus he not bad looking either! ;) ) If you have never listened to his music you NEED to go do it. NOW!

Glee: My FAVORITE TV show. It is so unrealistic, it's amazing. 'Hey, everybody, let's randomly break out in song and dance! Life is a musical!' But it has some realistic moments, too. It's funny and I love all the great characters. Oooooo and there's a new episode on tonight! <3

Old Musicals: If you've never seen a musical performed on stage, you are really missing out. If you've never a musical movie, you are just plain deprived! A couple weeks ago I went on my library's online catalog and I requested a bunch of old musicals on DVD. This last weekend I watched The Bandwagon, Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, and a weird Alice in Wonderland musical..... They were so charming! The stories were clean (Guys and Dolls includes gambling and the girl is a show dancer but otherwise clean) The characters were great and the songs amazing. It makes me so sad that musicals have become kind of a dying breed. If you can't sing about your problems, what CAN you do????

Tangled: My favorite movie and the BEST Disney movie. I have not talked to one person, male or female, young or old, who does not like this movie. It is so charming and it combines romance, adventure, and comedy. It is completely clean and totally lloveable! Looooooooooove it!

More fangirl fun to come! :)

"Countless as the sands of the sea are human passions."

That is a quote by Nikolai Gogol. I thought it was a great way to start off this post.
You know those things in life that you would love to pursue and improve your skills, but you don't have the time, money, or drive to do so?
Yes, I have a serious problem with this.
I have this problem x4.
They are all things that I have dabbled in in the past and would love to get back to.
I have a passion for each one of them, but I have no idea which to start with or focus on.
It makes it even harder that they are all interconnected and one skill would add to the other.

The first of these for me is singing. Singing has always come naturally to me. When I was a girl my mother used to say I always had a song in my heart. (A phrase which I resented at the time strictly because she used it so much.... When I think about it now, I describes it perfectly because its not just a song stuck in my head but real singing comes from the heart.) Singing has mostly just been stuff in front of the mirror or in church but I have done some for performance. I have been told I have a good voice but its hard when its your friends, family and little old ladies who go to your church telling you so. I would love to take voice lessons or be in a choir. As of now I can only sing melody and  don't have a very good ear for specific notes.

The second is dancing. Dance has also been pretty natural for me. I can be graceful when I'm actually paying attention to where my limbs are.... I took ballet for several years but quit because I didn't like the teacher. I don't know that I would go back to ballet again but I would love to go into modern dance or ballroom. Recently I've had the chance to do West Coast Swing with some friends. I've been enjoying it greatly but I would to get more serious about it.

The third is piano. I took a couple of classes several years ago and I have basic knowledge of music from also playing recorder and flute for a time. (which I quit because I couldn't sing and play it...) I tried to teach myself chords but I'm afraid I failed miserably... The great thing about piano is I could play it to accompany my singing as well.

Last but not least is Drama, especially Musical Theatre. The thing I love most about musical theatre is it combines singing, dancing, and acting... I have done several small productions with a family (also known as my directors or my adopted family). I love them and what they do dearly, but sometimes I feel I'm not being challenged because they're children's plays... I have tried out for several of the plays at my high school but unfortunately my auditioning skills are apparently lacking.... I  am much more reserved and quiet and my nerves tend to interfere with my singing and acting skills..

Ah well I don't expect you to have the perfect answer for me. I thought I'd share my angst with you. Perhaps you can relate? Or maybe you have found ways to pursue your passions without draining your bank account? I'd love to hear about it!

I've got a dream!

To all you fanatics out there... Yes, that was a Tangled reference.

Yesterday, I got the Tangled soundtrack.
I have not been able to stop listening to it whether I'm actually listening to it or one of the songs is just running through my head. I love it.
Last night, as I was lying in bed, Tangled soundtrack playing in the background, I realized my new dream. (Other than Flynn Rider of course ;) )

My new dream is to play Rapunzel when Tangled goes to Broadway. (Hmmmm....... Might have to start growing my hair out.....)

Anyone know someone to play Flynn opposite me??

What's your dream?

Birthday Buzz

(Like my alliteration??)
Alright so first things first... you're all wondering what I did for my birthday. I didn't do anything too exciting but I'm map out my day for you.
  • Slept in!!! :)
  • Went into the kitchen to find: 1) Flowers and a note from my brother *gasp* and 2) My mother making blueberry muffins *yummmmm*
  • Lazed around and finished Matilda by Roald Dahl (Which I have to say is one of my favorite books.... I had read once before when I was young but I decided to read it again :) )
  • Got dressed
  • Felt very 16! :)
  • Hung out and went on facebook and blogger
  • Got 48 wall posts, 7 texts, and one phone call wishing me a happy birthday :)
  • Got bored because I was avoiding doing homework...
  • Helped my mom make my favorite food ever : CHOW SE BOWS!!!! (Read: Chinese pork-filled buns of goodness)
  • Went to the store with my dad to pick ice cream (Cookie Dough *yum*)
  • Ate!!!! :)
  • Opened presents
  • Ate Ice cream
  • Went to bed
Wait, I know that next question.... What did I get for my birthday? I will tell you.

Well, back in the fall, I told my parents that I wanted to re-do my room for my birthday because its very purple and cluttered.... So I got :
  • A bedspread ----------> (not my picture)
  • Probably this paint ----------> (We haven't bought yet but we looked at paint chips and this is our favorite)
  • Pop tarts, Peachie-O's, and gum
  • My brother got me flowers. :)
  • Gray TOMS!!!!!!!! :) -------->
My best friend was going to visit me on my birthday but it didn't work out, so she came to see me yesterday. First thing she asked me was if I got Owl City tickets (the 2nd thing on my wish list) and I said no and that I was just planning on buying them myself. She then handed me a card and told me to open it. This is what I found ---------------------->
SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! :)

Someone's got a birthday coming up.....

So I know this girl.....
and her birthday is Saturday.

She will be turning 16.

It will also be her golden birthday because Saturday is the 16th.... ( For those of you not familiar with this term your golden birthday is the year your age matches the day on which you were born.)

She's pretty excited.

Oh yeah..... That girl is me.

The Glass - Half Full? Or Half Empty?

What is the answer to that age old question - Is the glass half full or half empty?
A friend of mine always says that the glass is just too big.
Personally, I think it depends on whether you're filling the glass or drinking from it.
What do you think? Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

I was wondering... Is it possible to be both?
Well, not at the same time, but does one always have to just an optimist or just a pessimist?
I find myself to be a little of both. I'd say on a normal basis I'm pretty optimistic, but at times I find myself in slumps that I just don't have a positive to say. It depends on the stituation and my mood. (My most frequent answer to opinion questions.)
The glass for instance - If I was pouring into the glass, it would be half full. However, if I'm drinking out of it, it would be half empty.
See what I mean? It depends on your perspective.
Personality factors into it but for the most part, it's a choice - are you going to allow yourself to find every negative thing you can to say about this stituation? Or are you going to make the most of it and try to find a way to make it enjoyable?
I always find myself feeling a lot better after the time I found a silver lining on the gray clouds.

It can be difficult, it can be annoying, but in the end, you'll be glad you did!

Weaknesses

Quote:
Human love is often but the encounter of two weaknesses.
Francois Mauriac

High school relationships are very.... interesting. Sometimes they turn out well and stay together to get married and have a family.
 But usually they fall apart.
I have been in a few myself but as you can tell from my verb tense, they ended. I'm not telling you whether you should or shouldn't, because thats a personal choice but I'll tell you some things I've noticed about them.

Teenagers, girls especially, tend to look at their significant other and think "He/she's SO perfect!" The thing is we all know no one is perfect. But some are either just oblivious to their faults or just ignore them. The problem with this is when you have a conflict all of a sudden you start realizing all these things that this person has issues with. Everyone has their weaknesses so I don't think there's a need to point them out in a way thats rude or judgemental. However when you're in a relationship (or even just a friendship) realizing that the other person has weaknesses and knowing what some of them can help things go a little smoother.
The other side that happens particularly in controlling relationships is when you're not only aware of their weaknesses but you're walking on eggshells doing everything you can to avoid upsetting them.  This seems like a good idea because  then no one gets hurt however if they're not made aware of their problems then they can't get help in that area and the problem only worsens. Confrontting people can be very difficult but when you don't say anything, you're only enabling them and that doesn't help anyone.

So what can you do, you ask? Well, the way God made relationships is so cool in the fact that He often pairs you with someone who balances you out. Althouigh having oppositee weaknesses can be difficult and frustrating, if you both do your part to be understanding and to keep each other accountable, you can have a great relationship. Recognize their weaknesses and yes even be sensitive to them but remember to help them try to improve as well.
